October 27, 2003: iTunes for Windows

by Hadley Stern Oct 27, 2010

The fact that users could plug the iPod into a Windows machine was great, but Windows users weren't getting the entire Apple iPod experience because they were forced to use the comparably clunky MusicMatch software instead of iTunes.

While not a fan of making Windows compatible software, Apple was a fan of selling iPods so the company relented and produced a Windows compatible version of iTunes.

The version was generally well received and became a very popular download after iTunes went Windows compatible this month in 2003.

  • The slogan at that event was “Hell has frozen over”
And they gave out posters about it, and Steve said it would become collectibles some day. I’m not seeing any of those posters on ebay
